Emergency cell phone numbers Drivers who want to report an emergency from their vehicles via a cell phone can call 911, which is usually routed to the California Highway Patrol. Or they can call the local police department directly. Emergency crews will likely to be able to respond to a scene faster when the local police department is called directly. The following is a list of police department phone numbers in the area (as posted in local papers):
